    Description:

Join us for Part 2 of our Diagnostic Stewardship webinar series on UTI!

Patients presenting with altered mental status (AMS) are frequently treated for presumed urinary tract infection (UTI) based solely on urinalysis (UA) results, regardless of whether other localizing symptoms are present. These practices increase the risk of antibiotic-associated adverse drug events (ADEs), Clostridioides difficile infection, and antimicrobial resistance, while potentially delaying recognition of the true cause of AMS or respiratory symptoms. There are a variety of tools available to aid in diagnostic stewardship with a diverse degree of sophistication. Effective interventions range from education, to local policy change, to integrated EMR nudges, to statewide pay-for-performance initiatives.

This interprofessional education session will enhance participants’ understanding of diagnostic stewardship by exploring its clinical importance, outlining practical strategies for implementation, and examining real-world successes and challenges specific pneumonia. Participants will leave better equipped to collaborate across disciplines to optimize diagnostic practices and improve the appropriateness of testing and treatment decisions.

    Agenda:
Following introductions, speakers will discuss four clinical trials with active learning occurring throughout. The session will end with attendee Q&A.

    Target Audience:
An interprofessional audience, specifically pharmacists and physicians, involved in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases. The content may also apply to advanced practice providers, nurses, microbiologists, infection preventionists, and other healthcare professionals.
