Purpose

SIDP is soliciting Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy research proposals from SIDP members who qualify as early career investigators (as defined in the Applicant Criteria section below). The primary purpose of this research grant is to provide funding for a research project that will further contribute to the development of the principal investigator’s research career and improve their competitiveness for future extramural funding. The research proposal must address a current pharmacotherapy issue(s) surrounding the prevention, diagnosis, and/or treatment of infectious diseases. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that address challenges in infectious diseases related to antimicrobial stewardship, comparative effectiveness, and lab-based (e.g. in vitro modeling) research.

Funding

Financial support is limited to a total of $120,000 divided among up to a total of 3 proposals ($40,000 each) for a one (1) year, non-renewable grant. The PI can request a no-cost extension that will be considered by the Board.

Applicant Criteria

At the time of application submission, the Principal Investigator (PI) must be a current Full or Associate Member of SIDP and be employed by a non-profit institution. Applicants with a terminal degree (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, etc.) who are recognized as a PI at their institution are eligible to apply. Applicants who are enrolled in a PGY1/PGY2/fellowship during the grant period are ineligible. Applicants must be ≤10 years of completion of their highest level of training (e.g., residency, fellowship, graduate degree). Grant funds may not be used to fulfill any graduate degree requirements. Furthermore, the PI must not have received NIH or other peer-reviewed federal funding as PI/site PI at the time of submission, and must not have received cumulative extramural funding of ≥ $100,000 as PI from any/all funding source(s). Finally, SIDP members who have received an SIDP Research Grant as PI in the past two years and members of the SIDP Board of Directors are ineligible to serve as PI for this grant. Questions regarding applicant eligibility should be addressed in writing to the Chair of the Research Committee prior to submission.

If a Research Committee member chooses to apply as PI, he/she will be recused from participating in the review or handling of this grant. If a Research Committee member chooses to apply as Co-Investigator, mentor, or consultant, he/she will be recused from review of the proposal they are supporting. It is the responsibility of the Committee member to notify the Committee Chair of their intent to participate in an application.

Proposals must be submitted by email no later than 11:59 PM EST on July 31, 2025.
