Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy (GCOP), in collaboration with Ballad Health Pharmacy Services, is seeking applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. This position is for a clinical-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Essential Functions: GCOP is committed to faculty integration in direct patient care environments to provide educational services that improve patient outcomes and enhance collaborative care within Ballad Health Pharmacy Services. The successful applicant will provide patient care as an Infectious Diseases (ID) Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) by providing antimicrobial stewardship across the health system; rounding with an ID consult service and making patient-centered interventions; providing dose optimization in real time through bedside medication order entry; collaborating with decentralized pharmacists on ID related patient-care needs; and serving as a representative for JCMC regarding stewardship initiatives by participating in committees and working groups. As part of the faculty role, the applicant will precept student pharmacists, PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents. The applicant will teach in the didactic curriculum, contribute to the research and scholarly pursuits of the departments of Pharmacy Practice and Ballad Health Pharmacy Services, participate in regional/national presentations, and provide service to the College, the University, and the broader professional community.

Qualifications: PharmD or other terminal pharmacy degree and completion of PGY-2 residency training in Infectious Diseases by July 1, 2024. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and have a strong desire for teaching and scholarship in an academic environment. Candidates must be eligible for Tennessee Pharmacist licensure.

As part of this partnership, the faculty member will provide patient care with Ballad Health Pharmacy Services. College of Pharmacy faculty also participate in the interprofessional education of medical residents, medical students, and other ETSU Health trainees.  Johnson City Medical Center is a 445-bed regional tertiary referral center and one of five Level 1 Trauma Centers in the state of Tennessee. The Center for Pharmacy Education, Advocacy and Outreach was created collaboratively between the Gatton College of Pharmacy and Ballad Health, broadening efforts to equip pharmacists in the region to transform practice and work as members of the healthcare team and to improve health outcomes including transitions of care at the time of hospital discharge.
